What Do You Know About "Reform Ohio Now"?

If you live and vote in Ohio, you should become informed about a ballot intiative which includes four constitutional ammendments for the state of Ohio to be voted on November 8. In trying to discover the motivations of the groups sponsoring the ammendment package you only have to consider that the OFT, the OEA, the Sierra Club, and every other liberal organization in Ohio are among the principal sponsers. Are you asking yourself the question, "what do these ammendments have to do with public education?" I am asking this question.
You might want to link to these web sites and read more. It seems like the supporters of this ammendment package can not accept the results of many elections in Ohio. They have these ammendments wrapped in slick packaging to try to fool the public into voting for "campaign finance reform," open, unrestricted and unverifiable voting, and voting for placing the election process (which has worked extremely well) and placing it under the crush of more government beauracracy.
These ammendments seem to be floating along under the political radar screen. Maybe as the election approaches, more facts will come to light.
Stay tuned as more information comes to light on "Reform Ohio Now."

Charles Krauthammer demonstrates why he has won the Pulitzer Prize. He gives insight into the kind of Chief Justice that John Roberts is likely to be.

The American Thinker provides great articles every day. It has become conventional wisdom that Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin were total failures in the face of Katrina. The American Thinker summarizes it better than anyone.

"Actually, it’s fascinating to contrast the bold, courageous, steadfast leadership shown by New York’s Mayor Giuliani and Governor Pataki following the September 11th attacks to the seemingly dazed, inept, vacuous mismanagement of Blanco and Nagin. Giuliani and Pataki immediately became household names, known worldwide for their calm, measured, appropriate handling of the WTC attack. On the other hand, it’s doubtful that the average American even knows who Blanco and Nagin are, so low have been their public profiles. But once again, their ineffective local response has somehow been transformed by the media into President Bush’s fault."

Chief Justice John Roberts

The Roberts hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee turned out mostly to be a big yawn. even the mainstream media couldn't get very excited about trying to defeat or trick judge Roberts into a mistake.

The Weekly Standard has a worthwhile summation of the hearings. Dick Durbin of Illinois was questioning Roberts on the last day of the hearings, and the brilliant John Roberts topped him once again.

"And so, in various ways, had Durbin's Democratic colleagues been asking about such matters--ones "beyond loyalty" to the rule of law. In response to Durbin, Roberts stuck to the point he had indeed made "many times over." Reframing the senator's question so as to reach the core issue, Roberts said, "Somebody asked me, you know, 'Are you going to be on the side of the little guy?' And you obviously want to give an immediate answer. But as you reflect on it, if the Constitution says that the little guy should win, the little guy is going to win in court before me. But if the Constitution says that the big guy should win, well, then the big guy is going to win, because my obligation is to the Constitution. That's the oath. The oath that a judge takes is not that 'I'll look out for particular interests.' . . . The oath is to uphold the
[]Constitution and laws of the United States, and that's what I would do."

That exchange crystallized the fundamental difference between John Roberts and the eight Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee. The Democrats believe a good judge will move "beyond loyalty" to the rule of law, if necessary, and seek to advance certain political outcomes--in Durbin's question, the expansion of personal freedom. Roberts dissents: He believes a good judge will distinguish between law and politics and stick resolutely to the law, regardless of the result. Roberts will go not with the little guy because he is the little guy, or the big guy because he is the big guy, but with the guy the Constitution says should win. He'll not look out for "particular interests" because his oath obligates him to support not this or that interest but the Constitution and the laws of the United States."

Congratulations to John Roberts: Chief Justice of the United States.

NEW YORK CITY THE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!

All hail to New York City: The Capital of the World!

We Will Never Forget

We will never forget the unprecedented events of September 11, 2001. The anniversary of this date provokes eerie memories and great pride. We remember all those whose lives were lost or irrevocably changed on this most infamous day in United States history.

Our nation and our culture were forever changed in a few moments on September 11. Too many of our citizens seem to have forgotten the tragic events of the day. Fox and Friends Sunday had a moving tribute this morning which mostly consisted of video footage from the fateful day in 2001.

The blogosphere is full of remarkable tributes and thoughts surrounding this fourth anniversary. It is one again a gorgeous September 11. Let us all take a moment to reflect on the meaning of September 11.

New York City is the most undefeated city in the world, the most resiliant city in the world, and truly the CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. I truly wish that I were in my adpoted home town today.

Lying Landrieu strikes again!

In a strained interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, Senator Landrieu was non-responsive to the many direct questions about her responsiblity in this entire matter. She would not criticise Mayor Nagin or Governor Blanco at all, yet she attempted half-heartedly to critique Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi. On what planet does she live??!! Governor Barbour has had his situation stabilized since day one. When confronted with facts from the Washington Post (among the two most liberal newpapers in the USA), Senator Landerieu was incredulous. She made no attempt to refute the facts, and demonstrated her hysterical emotional response to the charges at hand.

The truth: Senator Landrieu has done nothing to help her citizens. She is a strident, hysterical, knee-jerk, lying, liberal who knows her senate seat is in doubt when she runs for re-election. She is an embarassment to her state, and at this point, an embarassment to our nation.

Today's Best!

There are some great articles on the net again today. Read at least one of these examples of great original thinking. Too bad the mainstream media never gives us this much credit.

Over at American Thinker, James Lewis dissects Mayor Nagin's comment about General Russell Honore being "One John Wayne Dude." This is fabulous detailed writing and exposes, once again, the flaws of Mayor Nagin. All of this makes us genuinely appreciate the leadership of Rudy Guliani. Read this great article by following the link below.

http://www.americanthinker.com/articles.php?article_id=4808

The incomparable Dick Morris provides analytical insight into the advantages for President Bush as the recovery from Katrina continues. Dick Morris, former advisor to Bill Clinton, is almost always right on the mark in his potlitical instincts. He provides an optimistic/realistic view of the future for the President. God Bless Dick Morris.

http://thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/Comment/DickMorris/090705.html

Rush Limbaugh truly exposes Senator Lying Landrieu in a punishing diatribe which totally debases her shrill comments attacking President Bush. Surely, she is covering for her fellow incompentant and corrupt office holders in Louisiana. As usual, Rush is extremely well documented and news-making in his truly awe-inspiring commentary. Don't miss the great one in this well timed piece.

Rush Limbaugh continues to be the shining light of brilliant conservatism after all these years!

Paul Hackett for US Senate/Ohio

This is going to surprise some of you, but Paul Hackett could make a good candidate for U.S. Senate next year against Mike Dewine, and I might support him!! Dewine has not been friendly for the public education folks in Ohio, and was not loyal to the conservatives when he suddenly joined the "gang of fourteen" in senate this past Spring. Dewine could find himself under attack from both liberals and conservatives. While Dewine is the very likely winner, it would be great for Mr. Hackett to make a race out of it. Maybe Paul Hackett would do something to address the numerous probelms with the so-called "No Child Left Behind Legislation." Bob Novak, a favorite columinst, comments on this upcoming election in his column today.

"Paul Hackett, the increasingly likely Democratic challenger against Republican Sen. Mike DeWine in Ohio, may not be able to assume the pro-gun posture campaigning statewide that he used while nearly winning a congressional seat Aug. 2 in a heavily Republican Cincinnati district.
In a summer mailing to voters in the conservative constituency, Hackett identified himself as a Marine veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and National Rifle Association (NRA) member. The card says: "The first week I was home from Iraq I got my conceal and carry permit."
The card assailed the record in the Ohio legislature of his Republican opponent, Jean Schmidt, for voting against a concealed handguns bill in 2003 and against a concealed weapons bill in 2004."

All of the mentioned factors could make for an interesting senate race in our home state. Being from Mike Dewine's home county, it is difficult to go against him, but his usefullness in the senate is questionable. The Ohio Governor's race could play intot his as well, and Ken Blackwell and Mike Dewine are likely to team up for a strong campaign statewide. All of this does not bode well for Ohio Schools.

The Best Political Debate since the 2004 Campaign

The internet and news stations are full of the best political debates since the Swift Boat Veterans made their appearance in the 2004 Presidential Campaign. Some of you will remember my long list of linked articles every few days during that remarkable campaign cycle. Here are just a few of the best of the best from today's reading.

Slowly, the truth will come to light for the masses regarding all that has happened relative to Katrina.

The above artcile is a great compariosn of Paul Krugman's most recent debacle at the NYT with Charles Krauthammer's column which I already highlighted today.

The Media Research Center has great "cyber-alerts" tracking the liberal bias of the media. This would be a fabulous site for a student of any change wishing to track examples of media bias on a daily basis. BRAVO to the Media Research Center for doing the work for all of us!!

The above article details the facts surrounding the failure of Governor Blanco relative to the Red Cross etc. Major Garrett of Fox News has done an exemplary job on this story. This is really worth reading!

Lying Landrieu

Senator Mary Landrieu was on This Week with George Stephanapoulos last Sunday morning, and in addition to threatening to "punch him in the mouth" when refering to our President, she repeatedly asserted that New Orleans was robbed of money to solve their ridiculous levy system. As usual, a little fact checking reveals her total lack of sincerity and believability.

We learn from this story that contrary to popular opinion, Louisiana not only received its share of Army Corps of Engineers funding, it led the nation in receiving such funds. We also learn that most of the funds went to pork-barrel projects that had nothing to do with flood control thanks to the efforts of Louisiana's congressional delegation. And finally, we learn that the Bush Administration provided more money for flood control than did the Clinton Administration before it and that even though the Corps requested more money, "Lt. Gen. Carl Strock, the chief of the Corps, has said that in any event, more money would not have prevented the drowning of the city, since its levees were designed to protect against a Category 3 storm, and the levees that failed were already completed projects.

"I trust that we will remember all of this as arguments rage over whether government needs to be bigger and that funding for Louisiana was skimped on. I realize that once memes catch on, they are difficult to displace but lives depend on the displacement of this meme. Otherwise, we are fated to continue playing pork-barrel politics while our cities face potential destruction from either a natural disaster or from a terrorist attack. Last I checked, this wasn't a good option.

The Wonderful Charles Krauthammer

The Wonderful Charles Krauthammer has an insightful article at townhall.com today.

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/charleskrauthammer/ck20050909.shtml

Here is a brief quote from the column:

"The mayor of New Orleans. He knows the city. He knows the danger. He knows that during Hurricane Georges in 1998, the use of the Superdome was a disaster and that fully two-thirds of the residents never got out of the city. Nothing was done. He declared a mandatory evacuation only 24 hours before Hurricane Katrina hit. He did not even declare a voluntary evacuation until the day before that, at 5 p.m. At that time, he explained that he needed to study his legal authority to call a mandatory evacuation and was hesitating to do so lest the city be sued by hotels and other businesses."

Dr. Krauthammer is always on the mark, but no more so than in today's summary of the failure of so many levels of government. It is not long, and well worth your time!

CNN Does It Again.........

Paul Begala is on CNN arguing the Hilary Clinton position for an "independant" Katrina commision to investigate the entire mess in Lousiana. Notice there is still no mention of Mississippi or Alabama where the Governor of each state has had the situation stabilized since day one.

Hilary, Paul Begala, and all of these liberal screamers should be careful for what they wish. Any legitimate investigation will expose the total incompetance of Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin.

CNN is engaged in the most transparent forms of propoganda against President Bush. Even a cursory read of other news sources shows the total ineptitude of CNN to fairly or completely report this on-going story of failure by the local and state government.

Bryan Preston at www.junkyardblog.net is truly amazing! His coverage is wonderful and the links are highly informative.

Follow this link to a wonderful article at the Amercian Spectator which tells more of the lack of local government in New Orleans. http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=8714

The Mudville Gazette has some great background information on the tension between state and local government in New Orleans. This is great information: http://www.mudvillegazette.com/archives/003526.html

Keep the Faith.

And let's think about a great conservative on the Supreme Court.

More on The Fair Tax Book

There is a great, sarcastic review of Neal Boortz and John Linder's book posted today by Dr. Mike Adams whose columns regularly appear over at townhall.

Dr. Adams explains the book so well by humorously attacking it from the socialist/communist perspective. It is a another great column by a great writer and independant thinker.

Failure of leadership in New Orleans

Returning to work today was a revelation: several people were quoting the misleading propoganda promulgated by the mainstream media all weekend. "Bush failed," "It's all about GREED," "the government is criminal," etc. were some comments made directly to me and overheard. While Michelle Malkin, Junkyardblog, redstate.org, and Powerline provide the most comprehensive and accurate coverage of the failure of the local and state governments, the most vile and hideous insults are directed to George W. Bush and now his mother, Barbara Bush.

If you haven't heard Barbarba Bush compared to Marie Anntionette, you haven't heard the biggest exeggeration of the day. I strongly encourage everyone to read facts for yourself and to avoid the mainstream media's description of anything going on in Lousianna.

The Fair Tax Book

I would like to strongly recommend the Neal Boortz and John Linder book THE FAIR TAX BOOK. It is a wonderful explanation of everything wrong with our current income tax system, and proposes a dynamic new tax structure to correct many of the things wrong with the federal income tax system and the IRS.

The book is a short and quick read. Sunday marked the Fourth Week for Neal's book to appear on the New York Times bestseller list. The book is worth it.

Also, you might want to look at the web address www.fairtax.org for more information.

We need a prarie fire to change the corrupt tax system left over from the twentieth century. We need a new tax system which is fair to all!

Vote for the fair tax by buying a great book!!

John Roberts

According to www.redstate.org, the choice of John Roberts to be the Chief Justice of the United States is a strong one. We'll see. Ann Coulter and others have had their reservations about Judge Roberts.

Along these lines, everyone should read Mark Levin's fabulous book, Men in Black. It provides unique insights and historical perspectives to consider in today's political and judicial environment.

Here's hoping that Edith Jones will finally get her chance to be nominated and to serve after being considered by Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43. She would be wonderful. It is time to explore the meaning and intention of the "gang of fourteen" in the US Senate. Will the real Mike Dewine and Lindsay Graham please stand up?!!

You won't see this on CNN!

Bryan Preston has phenomenal historical and background information regarding the abject failure of all of the local and state officials in New Orelans. You must read it!! He is guest blogging over at Michelle Malkin's wonderful and highly useful site.

Thespis Journal

I'ver been thinking about doing this for a long time. Please wish me luck as I attempt to give thoughts on the news of the day, previews and reviews of local and New York Theater, and other musings in the life of a high school educator. Let me know your thoughts too.
I am intimidated by the quality and scope of other blogs. Maybe I do have something to offer the blogosphere. We'll see.....................

Get the truth out of N'awlins

I highly recommend the following web address for truth about the hurricane recovery in New Orleans. Dr. Santy is a friend of Kevin Hurley located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is truly one of a kind!

www.drsanity.blogspot.com

Scroll down to about the third article to read some accurate reporting about the situation in New Orleans. The article is called "The Reality Biased Community."

The Sunday News Programs were filled with inaccuracies and misguided views of the true nature of the situation. George Will was wonderful on THIS WEEK on ABC, and Fox News Sunday was refreshing when compared with the other warped coverages. Tim Russert came unglued on "Meet The Depressed."

Look beyond those "facts" espoused by the "Clinton News Network" and all of the other liberal, biased, and misguided thoughts and feelings shown on the other networks. If it is possible, this coverage is more biased than the so-called election coverage by the mainstream media.

Ask yourself the question, "Why is the situation under control in Mississippi and Alabama?" Haley Barbour and Governor Riley have had their respective situations stabilized since day one. Mayor Nagin of New Orleans and Governor Blanco of Louisiana are totally incompetent. Remember on September 11, 2001, Rudy Giuliani co-ordinated the efforts in NYC: NOT the federal government! FEMA is not designed to replace or substitute all of the functions of an adequate local and state government.

Another frustrating debacle by the mainstream media.

A Fabulous Show closes

I see on www.playbill.com that the marvelous production of Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf will close today. I am including my review from this past July. WOW! What a show, and what a production. I wish that I could have been in the theater today to see this final show. I would love to direct a production someday.

The above photograph captures a portion of the detailed, well decorated, historically accurate, and artistically satisfying set for Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf" playing on broadway at the Longacre Theater.

"Who's Afraid of Virgina Wolf" was an intense afternoon at the theater, and WOW, what an afternoon! Kathleen Turner and Bill Irwin are truly amazing as George and Martha. Bill Irwin won the 205 Tony Award for best leading actor in a play, and Kathleen Turner was nominated. I am sure that Miss Turner lost only because of the remarkable Cherry Jones in "Doubt" which is playing just across 48th Street at the Walter Kerr. "Wolf" is three acts of high drama, acute bickering, and mind blowing intellectual games between George and Martha.

I wish that all of my acting students could witness performances such as those given by all four cast members. As with most plays on broadway, remarkable range and diversity of acting skill, along with stunning depth of characterization make this play a once in a lifetime theatrical event.

It is said that Edward Albee "repeats himself" as a device in his script construction. This repetitive nature of the script requires great interpretive agility on the part of the actor. In this area, Mr.. Irwin truly excelled. The chemistry, artistry, and reality created by Irwin and Turner is a breath-taking sight to behold.

The sweeping range of emotions demanded by the playwright (Mr.. Albee) is absolutely stunning, and mere seconds elapse on stage between rage, love, hate, innuendo, laughter, and drunken stooper. It would be thrilling to direct such a play, and truly come to grips with its themes, meanings, and to explore the range of emotions within each character. The subtlety and nuance with which these actors portray their characters is an inspiration to actors everywhere.

I found the acting to be compelling and exhausting in the same way as Copenhagen, the 2000 Tony award winner for best play. Watching the development of characters and plot twists is intriguing, and truly a moment of being in the presence of greatness: playwright and actors.
